Strengthening the Integrity of Our Elections

House Republicans continue to listen to the people regarding the need to reform our elections. With input from stakeholders and bipartisan support, we have approved over 25 bills that will result in fairer and safer elections. House Republicans are fighting to protect the vote.

Protecting the Vote

Maintaining accurate and secure records in the QVF will ensure that only eligible voters are able to cast ballots.

  • Removing dead voters (HB 4491)
  • Clarifying uncertain dates of birth and removing people who have not voted in the last 20 years (HBs 4127-28, Vetoed by the governor)
  • No 3rd party access to QVF (HB 4837, Vetoed)
  • Signature verification training for clerks (HB 4845)
  • Requiring photo ID (SBs 303-304, Vetoed)
  • Prohibiting insecure electronic signatures on absentee voter ballots (HB 5288)
  • Banning unsolicited absentee voter ballots from being sent out (HB 5268)
  • Stopping the Secretary of State from weakening the security of our elections through JCAR rules process requiring the governor to quickly announce timing for special elections (HB 4996)

Advancing Democracy

Updating state laws to ensure resources are allocated in the most efficient manner will help our local clerks do their jobs more effectively and improve access for legal voters.

  • Permanent AV application lists for clerks (HBs 4132-33)
  • Training for challengers (HB 4528, Vetoed)

Safe & Fair Elections

Strengthening procedures and penalties for unethical conduct will restore the integrity of our elections. It is crucial every vote is counted safely and securely.

  • Requiring photo ID (SBs 303-304, Vetoed)
  • Making it a crime to provide false information on an absentee form (HBs 4132-33)
  • Requiring separate absent voter counting boards (HB 4135)
  • No voting machines connected to the internet during tabulation (HB 4838, Vetoed)
  • Retaining ballots and software for 22 months after an election (HB 4840)
  • Requiring the SOS to quickly review and post petition information on its website (HBs 4200, 5252)
  • Requiring election workers to sign an affidavit indicating party affiliation (HB 4876)
  • Prohibiting gifts to election officials from a 3rd party (HB 5253)
  • Allowing challengers in the clerk’s office and satellite AV counting locations on election day (HB 4897)
